Japanese English teachers head to US for training
The Japan Times has reported on a group of 96 Japanese English teachers who will be studying English and teaching skills on a six-month training program in the States. At a ceremony for the departing teachers, Vice Education Minister Hirofumi Ryu expressed hope that the teachers will change the "inward-looking" nature of Japanese students and nurture people who will be "active globally."
The initiative is part of Prime Minister Naoto Kan's pledge – made to Barack Obama on his visit last November – to foster exchanges of several thousand people over five years. (Photo by Kyodo.)
