Teacher's Assistant

K. International School Tokyo is seeking an early childhood teacher's assistant to commence work immediately. The assistant is expected to work collaboratively with the classroom teacher and single-subject teachers to plan and implement activities within the guidelines of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). A willingness to develop an understanding of the PYP and inquiry-based learning is essential.

The main duties of teachers' assistants are:
1) Support teaching staff in planning and implementing educational programs for students, and in assessing and reporting student progress and achievement.
2) Assist teaching staff in organizing the learning environment and support systems necessary to promote effective student learning and personal development.
3) Contribute to maintaining smooth classroom operations by supporting teaching staff through assistance with various administrative tasks.

Applications will be accepted from persons from any national background; however, native-level fluency in English is essential. Applicants should have strong interpersonal and communication skills and a proven capacity to work cooperatively within a team. In addition, applicants should have a genuine interest in children and should be patient and flexible. IT skills are also essential.

The initial contract period is for one year from August 2012 through August 2013. This includes participation in the 3-week Summer Academic Program scheduled for June and July 2013. It also includes duties within the regular after-school learning enhancement academic program (LEAP).

Working hours are 9:00-6:00 with 60 minutes break, Monday through Friday. These hours are non-negotiable. A number of Saturdays are also scheduled as school days during the year for annual school events. Attendance at a number of evening events during the year is also required.

In addition to the monthly salary, other benefits include:
- Applicants with valid working visas are preferred; however, visa sponsorship may be available if needed (depending on eligibility status).
- Commutation allowance up to a maximum of 1,000 yen per day
- Annual paid leave (as scheduled by the school during school vacation periods)
- Annual personal leave of 5 days (available after the initial three months)
- Medical insurance available if required
- Meals subsidy

Relocation and housing allowances are not provided.
