We are looking for a professional, preferably with a technology / digital content / research background, committed to expanding British exports to Japan of ICT and digital content/marketing services. To qualify you need a can-do attitude and willingness to take responsibility for delivery including sometimes outside your own area of expetise.
The Job
Your responsibilities will be:
- Help British businesses in the Technology/digital content and marketing sectors grow their business in Japan through provision of market intelligence.
- Horizon scan Japanese business to actively seek opportunities for UK companies.
- Deliver continuous improvement in research efficiency and insight, including by taking on challenging sub-sector topics under supervision.
- Engage in customer database management, robust process for post-support evaluation and follow-up, including identifying and capturing ‘Business Wins’ (a measure of real-world outcomes as reported by the clients themselves).
- Use your cultural insights to champion sponsorship of events.
- Contribute to sector and wider UKTI marketing. Be receptive to ways of working digitally which increase the impact of the sector team’s work, especially pursue a marketing approach, digital by default, provide content generation for www.exporttojapan.co.uk.
What we expect from you.
Someone who is fluent in both Japanese and English (JPLT N1 and IELTS 8.5 or equivalent) highly motivated and would enjoy the challenge of seeing their work turn into real business wins by helping companies increase exports from the UK in the fields of Technology and digital content/marketing sector and being recognised for their contribution by UK companies and the British Government alike. You will be joining a busy team which is innovative, open to new ideas and ways of working and currently achieves strong results. We will ask you to build and maintain your network of contacts in this field and deploy your expertise in support of our goals. The job would suit someone with previous experience in these sectors and also someone with good research and/or networking skills. We are looking for a team player who can pitch in when things get busy as they frequently do.

The job is currently being offered on a 1 year contract subject to annual renewal and attracts a monthly salary of JPY 323,000 per month (with bonus payable in June and December). We will pay you a commuting allowance of up to JPY 35,000 per month, 24 days paid leave (pro rata), Health Insurance and employee pension and employment insurance.

Together with our Osaka Consulate-General Office, we have nearly 50 members of staff. Promoting UK exports to Japan constitutes one of the priorities of the Foreign and the Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the team helps over 2,000 UK companies a year by undertaking market research, organising events, providing insights and advice based on the team’s experience in dealing with Japanese organisations etc.
