Infrastructure Engineer / インフラエンジニア - CareerCross - 2015
A system engineer with some Japanese language experience, but with more of a general skillset.
Particularly, with experience working hands-off on some relatively well-defined projects. So communication, organizational skills, and a good pro-active attitude will be important.
Attending project meetings, and co-ordinating with PM and software development teams).
Work might include:
- Hardware upgarde and replacement
- Re-arranging VMware VMs
- Improving VMWare host networking
- Migaration and new system deployment
- Converting Xen VMs to VMware
- Working with infrastructure and software development teams on various operational projects and duties.
Required Skills:
- Basic understanding of Windows, Linux, networking, storage, server-side applications and systems (e.g. web servers, java app server, database, etc.)
- Hands-on experience working on projects
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Be proactive to learn, conduct research and investigation as required
, I would be looking for someone with some basic understanding of Windows, Linux, networking concepts, storage concepts, and server-side applications and systems (e.g. web servers, java app servers, databases) – it doesn’t need to be in-depth knowledge, as we have domain-specific engineers who can provide that in-depth knowledge, but the work may require learning about some unfamiliar systems, so I’d prefer someone who was comfortable doing some research and investigation as required.
I haven’t yet decided which projects this resource would be working on, but they may include some of the following work:
- Replacing hardware (HP blades) before end-of-life
- Upgrading hardware to improve capacity (installing new blades, upgrading blade memory, replacing HP passthrough modules with Cisco Ethernet switch modules)
- Re-arranging VMware VMs to properly separate development from production, and separate windows and linux servers to improve license efficiency
- Improving VMware host networking (to make available VLANs consistent across multiple clusters)
- Deploying new Windows and Linux VMs to support system upgrades (for example replacing Windows Server 2003 with Windows Server 2012 R2, replacing RHEL 5 with RHEL 6/7)
- Converting Xen VMs to VMware
- Migrating Linux and Windows Server iSCSI attached volumes from old arrays to new arrays using rsync and robocopy tools
- Working with infrastructure and software development teams to upgrade some middleware systems; e.g. WebMethods, Tomcat
- Working with infrastructure and software development teams to prepare servers for new systems, and document key operational information to share with operations team before go-live (according to template we have already prepared)
- Working with infrastructure team to review, test and improve backup and restore procedures
