National Relief Teaching Opportunities ‹ Interac ‹ Japan Guide - 2015
Inside Interac we call them ‘Super Subs’—short for Super Substitute teachers. They are our parachute wearing, abseiling, arctic-trekking superheroes who travel from Interac’s headquarters in Tokyo to all corners of Japan at a moment’s notice (to literally save the day, week, month, or in some cases the year). In polite company we call them National Relief Teachers.
We are looking for teachers with experience in elementary, junior high, and high school environments, and who are extremely flexible to enter an environment in a potential crisis situation and deal professionally with uncertainty. Our National Relief Teachers maintain a home base in the Tokyo area; but they are usually deployed outside this area, often at short notice and for long periods of time. While thus deployed all travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by Interac.
To become a National Relief Teacher is a great opportunity for someone who wants to explore more of Japan and has a ‘see where this road takes me’ attitude. One week you could be going to school by helicopter to a far-off island and the very next week you could be commencing a three-month deployment programme near a ski resort.
Due to the varying nature of the deployments, it is expected that our National Relief Teachers will hold a driver’s license that allows them to drive in Japan. Additionally, the ability to deliver a meaningful lesson in elementary, junior high or high schools with little information or preparation is essential.
Our National Relief Teachers maintain a healthy work-life balance as they generally work from Monday to Friday with classes scheduled between 8 am and 5 pm. From time to time you may be required to work outside these hours/days in order to travel for deployment. Otherwise, you are able to enjoy weekends and national holidays as well as breaks in winter, spring, and summer.
Apply today to become a National Relief Teacher. Before doing so, we strongly advise you to check the above-mentioned requirements for this position, and to thoroughly check your application and cover letter one more time to ensure accuracy and relevancy. Also, always check that your phone number and email address are correct before submitting your application.
Interac is committed to creating meaningful career experiences to enrich lives and careers through education.
