Second Extensive Reading World Congress to be held in Seoul, Korea
The Extensive Reading Foundation (ERF) has announced the exact date and venue for the Second ER World Congress. The event will be hosted by the the Korean English Extensive Reading Association at Sookmyung Women’s University on September 14th & 15th 2013 in Seoul, Korea. The first World Congress was held in Kyoto, Japan, in September 2011 and was considered a huge success. In Kyoto, more than 400 participants enjoyed around 160 presentations by lecturers such as David Hill, William Grabe, and Paul Nation. Next year's congress will be a two-day gathering of scholars, educators, writers, and publishers for the purpose of discussing and promoting the theory and practice of extensive reading in second-language education. Topics to be addressed include internet & e-media, rating scales & progress measurement, non-linear reading, and many other interesting fields. Presentation submissions will open on December 1st 2012.

JALT Sendai lectures on Extensive Reading
The Sendai chapter of JALT is organizing two presentations on Extensive/Graded Reading next Sunday (25 March 2012) in Sendai. The presentations are sponsored by ELTBOOKS.com and will be held by our very own Russell Willis about Issues in the Design of Extensive Readers for the iPhone and by Ken Schmidt (Tohoku Fukushi University) about Building a Course in Extensive Reading for Non-English Majors.
These presentations are not limited to members but can be visited by everyone interested.
Pre-registered teachers are entitled to free admission and to a triple chance to win prizes.

Extensive Reading World Congress provisional schedule released
One of the most exciting events this year will be the Extensive Reading World Congress held September 4th and 5th in Kyoto. The provisional schedule has just been released and can be downloaded here as a PDF. The World Congress represents the first time for all those involved with the extensive reading approach – teachers, scholars, writers and publishers – to gather under one roof for a conference dedicated purely to extensive reading. There will be a total of over 150 presentations during the conference consisting of plenary sessions, concurrent sessions, colloquia and workshops.
Speakers will include David R. Hill, William Grabe, Paul Nation, Richard Day, Jeong-Ryeoul Kim and many more.
