Country Manager

JOB PURPOSE:

Under the general supervision of the Director, International Business this position exists to manage, direct and control, through subordinate managers, the scheduling, staffing, sales and execution of client contracted operations for multi-unit, multi-site field offices to achieve profitability and service goals in support of overall company objectives. Responsibilities also include development of sales revenue through acquisition of new customers and account management of existing customers, in-country finance, accounting and banking relationships, in-country Human Relations and day-to-day legal matters.

Depending upon the size and stage of development of the country operations, the incumbent may directly supervise varied function managers. These managers are responsible for the operation of single or multi-unit field offices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

1. Ensure consistent high quality service from all offices by teaming with subordinate managers within the assigned area to deliver profitable service levels through recruiting, sourcing, effective planning, sales, scheduling, coordination, execution and direct observations of client contracted services.

2. Select, develop, train, monitor and provide general direction to subordinate managers to ensure the successful performance of their principle duties and responsibilities.

3. Ensure subordinate managers grow the business by developing sales with new customers, increasing sales and market share with existing customers, conducting employee training programs to improve productivity, adhering to established expense controls and seeking out new expense control/reduction opportunities, adhering to established standard production procedures, and increasing employee retention.

4. Achieve and monitor long and short-term sales and account management goals, as well as increasing sales revenue in line with corporate goals by developing new customers and increasing company market share of existing accounts.

5. Reduce company liability by promoting and participating in safety awareness and accident prevention programs, creating a “culture” of safety practices in the workplace, carrying out appropriate disciplinary and corrective action procedures to avoid legal costs and training and enforcing fair employment practices among all employees.

6. Ensure high level of coordination and cooperation is maintained in integrating activities between in-country offices or cross-country offices by monitoring a large number of activities occurring simultaneously to ensure consistency of overall quality of service to the customer.

7. Develop and implement a succession plan for the country to ensure availability of candidates for promotion and/or transfer to meet current needs and facilitate future growth.

8. Oversee client contracted services where the account is critical to meeting profit and service goals by visiting customer corporate headquarters or client sites, and maintaining high level contact with customers which includes large and small international, country-wide, and local customers located at various distances from the office site.

9. Maintain existing sales volume and generate increased sales volume by participating in the development and execution of sales presentations for medium and large accounts, initiating and closing sales for smaller accounts, and setting fees that meet the company gross margin goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE:

Normally requires a bachelor’s degree. Requires native Japanese language and English language at a Business level. A thorough understanding of financial statements, applicable local labor and employment laws as well as knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software programs is essential. Must be knowledgeable about the technical nature of the product delivery system.

SKILLS:

1. Ability to clearly and concisely communicate in both written and verbal forms in English and the local language.

2. Ability to ensure high quality, profitable service levels through effective and efficient execution of contracted services and to meet customer expectations and needs including efficient, productive techniques.

3. Ability to select, hire, train, and develop subordinate managers to ensure the successful performance of their principle duties and responsibilities.

4. Ability to contribute to company-wide sales efforts by meeting customer needs, building relationships and delivering high levels of customer service.

5. Ability to ensure all offices are effective in staffing, developing, training and motivating employees, fostering teamwork and the creation of a positive environment to increase productivity and avoid employee relations issues.

6. Ability to ensure safety of all employees at all times whether in the office, traveling or while performing actual contracted client services.

7. Ability to identify potential new customers, develop rapport with customers to increase sales of regional accounts, assist in determining client fees and setting up the client contracted services process.

8. Ability to write advertising copy, compare resumes with job specifications, interview applicants and make judgments as to whether to hire or not hire.

9. Ability to be persuasive and negotiate effectively in a style appropriate to the environment.

EXPERIENCE:

Normally requires five to seven years experience managing through effective leadership multi-site operations including the selection and development of subordinate managers, managing multiple levels of managers and large numbers of hourly employees in a service related industry will generally predict a higher level of success. This experience should include demonstrated proven results in customer service and relationship building, sales, profit planning, succession planning and successor development, adherence to cost containment and team building.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Incumbent must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Will travel to various local, national and international customer sites to manage the contracted client services process. Distance to work sites will vary and overnight travel is required. Travel by airplane, bus or train will be necessary. Client contracted services can occur at any time of the day or night seven days per week. There is no pre-established standard available based on a variety of factors some of which include availability, productivity, and accuracy.

Generally, work is performed indoors. Occasionally outdoor client contracted services are conducted.
