Full-Time SunBridge English Teacher

OVERVIEW:
Are you a creative “can do” kind of person?
Fancy a challenging but rewarding job where you’ll get meaningful training that gives you confidence, ownership and control of your work and helps you enjoy professional autonomy with the luxury of ongoing support whenever needed?
Want to be part of a young, growing and creative organisation?
We’re looking for bright, creative people who want something more than a “McJob”, who want to work as part of a team that strives for excellence everyday. People who understand the value of genuine, high level customer service.
Great opportunity for someone serious about developing their professional (and personal) skills.
Extensive training and ongoing support given, (you can’t learn to be a good teacher in a few days like most English schools seem to think).
Warm and friendly working environment.
You’d be joining an ever-growing team of respected English teaching professionals who take great pride in their work.
Challenging and stimulating position that requires a capable and self managing attitude and earns respect from customers and team mates alike, (certainly not a typical “McEikeiwaJob”).
Decent fixed hours and regular days off.
Fixed locations and generous paid holidays.
Competitive pay.
Completion bonus.
Non-sales orientated team bonus opportunity.
Negotiable contract extension option with re-signing bonus.

LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT:
We need someone to start with us by Tuesday 2nd April 2013 at the latest, but anytime before then is great.
In order for us to maintain trust with our customers, we ask that only people who are willing and able to commit to a 2 year initial fixed contract (from date of commencement) apply.

HOURS:
Tuesdays to Fridays 9am to between 6:30pm and 8pm and Saturdays 8:30am-5pm.
Every Sunday and Monday off!
A few extra hours throughout the year for family events, but teachers will be consulted in advance about times, these are voluntary and are paid at overtime rate.

LOCATION:
A pleasant 8 minute walk from Fujigaoka station (Higashiyama subway line).

COMPENSATION:
First few "probation" months (1 to 6 months depending on your progress) at 230,000 yen/month, then 230,000 - 270,000 yen/month (depending on your own performance and achievement of pre-agreed/pre-trained SMART Goals) + transport allowance.
6 weeks fully-paid holidays per year, including Christmas/New Year and Summer break, (depending on contract commencement date).
Generous completion bonus (subject to punctuality), paid on contract completion.
Re-signing bonus option.
A further, non-sales orientated Team Bonus opportunity.
However, the right person will not only be interested in the above compensation package. The way we see it, if you are the right person, we’ll be compensating you to simply be yourself and to learn many new and useful professional and personal skills...a priceless opportunity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Main responsibilities include planning, preparing, practising for and teaching our daily 2 hour “AfterSchool” classes of up to 10 kids at a time, (aged 3-10), the same for our “DaySchool” classes (aged around 2 years), with some conversation-based teaching of adults and smaller private classes for older kids and adults, (casual, 50 minute classes), all in larger than average classrooms.

You’ll be responsible for keeping our students happy, engaged and stimulated, while gradually helping to improve their personal and social skills in addition to the obvious improving of their English abilities.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
MUST BE A NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER with clear pronunciation and universally understood accent.
Must have the necessary visa to enable full-time working in Japan, or have the necessary legal credentials to enable us to sponsor such visa in time for work commencement and to last the duration of employment with us.
Must either already live no more than 30 minutes regular commute from Fujigaoka station, Nagoya, or be able to move there, by own means, before work commencement.
Only a warm, naturally friendly, genuine “people-person” with an immediately apparent bright personality will be considered for any position at SunBridge English School.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Experienced, professional assistance is always on hand for those occasional tricky moments in classes and we pride ourselves in offering continuous, constructive training, development, support and feedback to our staff.
However, we’re looking for a capable person who should have no problem, (and indeed will enjoy the challenge of), independently planning, preparing, practising for and, of course, teaching mainly groups of kids by themselves.

You’ll have guidance, our own original curriculum to follow and all the resources necessary for all your class-planning needs, however we do not use text books or flash cards here.

We’re also a totally customer focussed organisation and the right person will be willing and able to “go that extra mile” in bonding with our students, helping them to develop their personal and social skills too.

Therefore a creative and organised mind, a lively and selfless spirit and a professional and proactive outlook are all essential personal attributes along with a warm, bright and genuine personality.
Punctuality and reliability are other basic essentials and the right person must be able to commit to the entire length of the initial contract.

Previous experience might be an advantage, but not at all necessary if the right person has the right, intelligent and hardworking attitude.

This is a very challenging but rewarding opportunity, unlike many English teaching jobs here in Japan and we will only fill this position if we find someone who ticks most (if not all) of the above boxes.

Please note :
We're very sorry, but we're only able to respond to candidates we deem suitable and will respond to such within 7 days of receipt of application.
You have a much better chance of being deemed "suitable" if you at least have a go at tailoring your resume to our requirements with specific examples and it'd be great if you also have a recent photo of yourself in your profile.
Suitable candidates will be invited to the school for an informal interview at a the earliest, mutually suitable time and date.
The interviewee will be fully responsible for their own travel expenses to and from any interviews with us.
