"NEW" Business Development Manager "INT'L COMPANY" : CareerCross - 2015

The Role

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for sales of Mintel’s market intelligence subscriptions to new FMCG clients in Japan.

The Business Development Manager will be required to reach out to new business prospects, visit them on site, demonstrate the services Mintel has to offer, explain what it can do for the business, and close new contracts. There will also be times when he/she will have to step in to discuss various custom ad hoc projects with the existing clients as well, in collaboration with the Account Directors. In addition, it is imperative that Business Development Manager works closely with the Account Directors to make sure that the clients brought in are satisfied with the level of support Mintel provides.

It is expected that the Business Development Manager will be meeting about 10 new clients in Japan.

The Person

This is a very important hire for the business.   The person will need to be comfortable working autonomously and without ‘day to day’ supervision.  For example this person will need to know what is required to get and maintain the accounts/business – in summary ‘gets it and does it’.

The person will need to have had strong exposure to working in the FMCG sector.

The person will be:

  • Excellent in English

  • A self-starter and self-motivated

  • Energetic and hungry

  • Enthusiastic and passionate – have a genuine interest in the product.  Have the presence and ability to ‘excite’ people about the service

  • Intelligent – leaning more on the ‘quiet confidence’ as opposed to ‘brash’ sales style

  • A consultative approach

  • A listener and open

  • An effective communicator – both written and ‘on his feet’

  • A strong presenter

  • An effective time manager – considering the travel and size of the region to cover

  • Supportive of peers within the business

  • Customer focused – committed to the customer and servicing the customer

  • Interested in the FMCG space

  • Well-connected in the FMCG industry
