Job Description

Toyota Motor Europe Chassis Engineering Division in Zaventem (Brussels), is responsible for:


Local development of Chassis parts (containing suspension, electric power steering and driver-control) for vehicles built in one of Toyota’s European assembly plants. This activity is done in close cooperation with our local suppliers and our mother divisions in Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) in Japan. TMC relies on us to make sure the design is adapted to European customers’ expectations and European suppliers’ production methods.


Investigation of new European technologies: after investigation we propose them to TMC for application in future vehicle projects.

Within Chassis Engineering Division, Chassis Design 1 Department takes care of :

Driver-control parts (pedals, shiftsystem, steering wheel and parking-brake)


Electric power steering system and related parts

Your responsabilities

The main responsibility of the open position is the successful development completion of driver-control parts.

This is achieved by the following activities : 

During the prototype phase, the formal design responsibility is in TMC. However, you will drive the daily development process for parts developed at European suppliers. Continuously you utilize your engineering talent to support the suppliers in their development of these safety-critical parts. Your project management skills allow you to finish the development on time and exceed all Toyota’s performance targets. For parts developed in Japan, you are the liaison between our mother division in TMC and other European parties (assembly plants, suppliers)

During the production-preparation phase, the formal design responsibility is handed over to you. You make sure production parts achieve expected performance levels. Together with the quality division and production engineering, you solve any quality and workability issue in our vehicle assembly plants.

During each step of the development, you will focus on cost-reduction and remain vigilant that the part performance beats European customers’ expectations.

An additional responsibility of the open position is to investigate new European technologies in the responsible area. In case a promising technology is found, you set-up a pre-development study. If successfully concluded, you propose it to TMC for application in a future vehicle.

In this position you will report to the teamleader and senior manager of the department.

Your profile

1. Education : Master in (Electro-) Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering.
2. Experience : 2 to 5 years relevant experience in the design & development of complex mechanical parts. Preferably in the area of vehicle chassis parts.

Extensive mechanical engineering and general vehicle design knowledge

Competence with MS Office tools, CATIA v5 and FE analysis are an asset

Fluent in English. Japanese, German, French would be an asset.

4. Behavioural Skills / Key Competencies:


Excellent communication skills (both verbal & written)

5. Practical information: Willing to travel up to 20% of time in Europe and Japan
